How to Get Glue on Nails Off
Want to know how to quickly and easily remove glue from your nails? Fake nails look great, but if you haven't had them done before, it can be a little tricky to remove. Nail glue is just one of the evils that everyone in the nail industry has to deal with. It's sticky, messy and not the most pleasant, but we need it to wear our favorite styles of acrylic and stay on top of the latest trends.
Our guide is on how to remove nail glue in a safe, effective and headache free way. With these tips, you'll have strong, healthy, natural nails.
If you're still worried about how to easily get the super glue off your nails and hands, worry no more - it's actually quite simple. Follow these steps.
- Fill a bowl with warm and soapy water. Use a gentle dish soap.
- Soak your fingers. The glue will dissolve in a few minutes.
- Gently scrape away any remaining glue. Using another fingernail or a hard edge should be enough to remove the remaining glue. If not, repeat the preceding steps.
Overview of Glue on Nails
Nail glue is chemically closer to super glue than the glue we use in arts and crafts class.
Although they differ slightly in viscosity and strength, nail glue and super glue both contain compounds called cyanoacrylates, which contribute to the quick-drying effect of these products and give them a completely clear color.
Some glues are more skin-friendly (hypoallergenic), while others are vegan. Depending on your personal preferences and priorities, there will be a glue that suits your needs.
We came to the conclusion that it is usually best to use only a small amount of (good) nail glue and to take the removal process seriously to keep our skin and natural nails healthy.
How to Remove Glue on Nails
Get a small basin of warm water, some cotton balls, a nail file or buffer, acetone based nail polish remover, if available, and some natural baby oil or olive oil.
- Soak your hand in a basin with warm water and oil. Let them relax there for about 10 minutes to allow the glue to soften up.
- From there, move your hand into a smaller acetone bowl for just a few minutes. You should notice that the glue starts to deteriorate at this stage.
- Rather than trying to peel the nail away from the tip, gently pry the bottom of the nail where it meets the cuticle. Each nail should come off easily.
- Once all the fake nails have been removed, put your hand back in the warm water and oil and continue soaking the glue to help it come off.
- If you have any glue left on your nails, gently file it away with a buffer. Try to avoid sanding the nail itself.
- When complete, apply some healing cuticle oil or moisturizer to your nails.
Apply Press on Nails Correctly and Remove Easily
Using nail glue correctly can help you remove nails safely and effectively when the time comes. Here are some tips:
- Before reaching for the glue, give yourself a quick mini manicure. Make sure your nails are clean, smooth, and slightly dry to remove all grease.
- Prepare your press on nails and know beforehand which case will be on which nail. Take the time to sort it out so you don't get confused.
- Do not apply nail glue to each finger before pressing on them. Do this one at a time because the glue dries quickly.
- Using the brush in the glue bottle, very gently apply a thin layer of glue to the nail, aiming to completely cover the nail but avoid contact with the cuticle of the nail.
- Continue the normal application process to ensure a firm foothold.
The next time you apply the press on nails, see if you can use the least amount of glue to make removing the press on nail easier.
